SONNET PHILOSOPHIQUE
ATTRIBUÉ AU FAMEUX ST. GERMAIN
Rien n’était, Dieu voulut, rien devint quelque chose,

SONNET PHILOSOPHICAL
ATTRIBUTED TO FAMOUS ST . GERMAIN
CURIOUS scrutineer of all nature ,
I have known the great whole principle and the end.
I saw gold from the bottom of the mine ,
I seixed the matter and surprised his leaven .
I explained by what art the soul to the sides of a mother,
Makes its home , wins, and how a glitch
Set against a wheat grain under moist dust,
One plant and the other vine, are the bread and wine. Nothing was , God was nothing became something,
I doubted it , I looked at what the universe arises ,
Nothing kept the balance and served as support.
Finally, with the weight of praise and blame ,
I weighed the eternal, he called my soul,
I died , I worshiped , I knew nothing
