Background
A description of the experience
From ‘Attitudes to Death in the light of dreams and other out of body experiences’ – Rosalind Heywood
During the war in the western desert, I was knocked unconscious by bomb blast and had the peculiar sensation of being out of my body viewing the scene from a point about 20 feet above the ground… I could hear the aircraft as it came in on another attack and the voices of my companions. I could see the dust clearing away from the explosion that had knocked me unconscious and my own body lying there on the gravel..
I remember the thought ‘I’ve got to get back’, and then I was back in my body consciously trying to force my eyes open.
An odd thing was that, although I could hear perfectly while I was unconscious and could tell my comrades what they had said during that period, when I recovered consciousness I was stone deaf and remained so for weeks afterwards.
This experience has convinced me that there is a part of the person that survives after death… I am certain that when I do eventually die, or rather when my body dies, part of me will carry on, to where or to do what I do not know
