Buprenorphine – Suboxone Buprenorphine Subutex , Suboxone (buprenorphine with naloxone) - high-dose tablets used for the treatment of addiction - Temgesic, Buprenex - solutions for injection used for acute pain in primary-care settings - Norspan and Butrans - transdermal preparations used for chronic pain - is a semi-synthetic opioid derived from thebaine. It is a mu agonist and a kappa antagonist. It is an analgesic (pain killer) and has gained “a great deal of notoriety for its ability to interrupt severe opiate addiction”, including heroin and methadone addictions. It was approved by the FDA in 2002 for use as an opiate addiction treatment.
