Observations placeholder
Braid, James - The singing patient
Identifier
002295
Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
The key to understanding this observation is that she wasn't singing tunes that were not known, but tunes that were known and had been sung by the people present - in effect she was mind reading
A description of the experience
Neurypnology: or the Rationale of Nervous Sleep – James Braid
A few days ago, one of these patients, who knows no foreign language, when imitation and tune were excited, followed correctly both the music and words of Italian, French, and German songs, which she never heard till they were played and sung by the wife of a learned barrister, who was also present himself, and who, with the Rev. Mr F. and his lady, can bear testimony to the great accuracy of her performance.
