Ernesto Bozzano - Psychic phenomena at the moment of death [110 cases suggesting survival after death]
Fifth category - Cases in which the dying family members are the only ones to perceive the ghosts of the deceased.
48-th case. - I'm extracting this case from the Journal of the American S. P. R. (1918, P. 608). Mr. S. M. Bennet communicated the following fact to Professor Hyslop:
One of the oldest inhabitants of the district of Wert Pittston was a lady M., widow and mother of two daughters, one of whom was alive and married to M. Merrimon, the other, named Stella, died of typhoid fever in 1876.
During the last illness of her mother, Mrs. Merrimon was almost always at her bedside. There was also her son and a middle-aged nurse, a practical and serious woman.
One night, Mrs. Merrimon had gone to bed for a while in the next room, behind a curtain, while the nurse had sat down in the dying woman's room so that she could see the bed, despite the very dim light. At one moment she saw a woman standing beside the bed looking intensely at the sick woman for quite a long time.
The nurse, assuming it was Mrs Merrimon, did not get up. But soon after she saw this form dissolve. As the size and build did not match the high stature of the lady in question, the nurse went to the next room and found Mrs. Merrimon sleeping quietly. The nurse then gave a good description of the perceived form, a description that corresponded exactly to that of the late Stella.
