Ernesto Bozzano - Psychic phenomena at the moment of death [110 cases suggesting survival after death]
Fourth category: Cases of deathbed apparitions, coinciding with similar preannouncements or confirmations, obtained through the medium channel.
42-nd case. - In the year 1917, Great interest was aroused in England by a case of spiritual identification narrated by Mr. Richard Wilkinson, a well-known and sceptical businessman with a strong religious background. Having lost his son in the war, he was forced by his wife to attend a medium’s session during which they obtained excellent evidence of the young man's presence and identity. Further sessions followed and further extraordinary evidence was gathered until the absolute conviction of the skeptic Mr. Wilkinson, who for the consolation of so many suffering souls, decided to report the facts in The London Magazine in October 1917.
I extract this passage which bear relation to this case.
While my wife had been to Brighton to care for her father, who fell ill (and died shortly afterwards), one morning, around 8 a. m. in broad daylight, she saw her son's appearance beside her. No scientific explanation, no theory can ever make her admit that it was a matter of autosuggestion and hallucination, she is quite sure that her son was at her side.
A few days later, she returned to London. She hadn't told anyone about the event, and was waiting to see me at the station and tell me about it. On the evening of that same day, we went together to the psychic Mrs. Annie Brittain’s home. As soon as we were in session, the first words she said were:
"Your son wants his mother to know that it was not a dream at all, but that he was actually allowed to lift the veil that separates us for a moment".
Then the medium added:
"Jane saw it too."
Jane is an intimate friend of ours who, a few days earlier, had told my wife that she had seen the appearance of our son in circumstances that absolutely precluded the possibility of a dream. Needless to say, Mrs. Brittain had never heard of this Jane before.
If someone had told me, only a year ago, that I could have read - I do not say write - and believe similar things, I would have answered that it was impossible.
