A description of the experience
Ernesto Bozzano - Psychic phenomena at the moment of death [110 cases suggesting survival after death]
First category - Cases in which the apparitions of the deceased are perceived solely by the dying person, and relate to persons whose death he knew.
7th case. - I find it in the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research (1913, page 603); it represents the simplest form in which these phenomena manifest themselves. Mr. Rud. C. Gittermann, Member of the British R. R., writes to Professor Hyslop:
My father died in Germany on March 18, 1892, and my mother came to live with us in Odessa, but she fell ill and died on May 6 of the following year. Like my father, she had always remained irresistibly skeptical about the existence and survival of the soul. A few seconds before her death, she regained consciousness (she had been in a coma for about two hours), raised herself on her bed, stretched out her arms and, with a great surprise painted on her face, exclaimed: "Papa! Papa! really, as if his unexpected appearance had presented itself to her. Then she fell back into my wife's arms and exhaled. My mother used to call her husband "Papa", as we, children. - I certify that the above is the pure truth.
Signed: Rud. C. Gittermann.
