Ernesto Bozzano - Psychic phenomena at the moment of death [110 cases suggesting survival after death]
First category - Cases in which the apparitions of the deceased are perceived solely by the dying person, and relate to persons whose death he knew.
3-rd case. - Mr Hudson Tuttle thus speaks of another case, which came to his knowledge:
A very moving episode happened a few years ago in the city of Hartford. The one who communicated it to me was so convinced of the paranormal nature of what he had seen, that the fact had been well etched in his memory. He still lives in a western state; he is a practical, positive man - the last person able to indulge in daydreams.
In the case in question, he was at the bedside of a dying person, a typographer by profession. For about half an hour the dying person had been going out little by little.
The breathing, more and more oppressed, had become very slow and very difficult. At last the moment arrived when the watchman thought him dead. All at once his eyelids opened again, animated by an expression of great surprise, as if recognizing someone; his face illuminated by an intoxication of joy, he exclaimed:
"You, you, my mother."
And he fell, dead, on his pillow.
"No one can ever persuade me," says the reporter of this episode, "that this man did not really see his mother before him" - (Hudson Tuttle, The Arcana of Spiritualism, 167.)
