Background
I have a little book called “A Handy Guide for Everyone to Correct spelling and Pronunciation” which must date to the 1950s or so. In it, it has a selection of about 750 words which sound the same but differ in spelling and meaning. This seemed rather a fun basis for a poem – so here goes ……
A description of the experience
You were troubled in pain
I asked did you ail
Would a beer make it better?
Perhaps a pale ale
Permission you gave
Said it would be allowed
To shout in a loud voice
To tell it aloud
That your heart was the problem
It had suffered a bruise
That would not be made better
By beery type brews
But a kiss on your lips
Like the fresh morning dew
Would make your heart better
As kisses will do
