Alfalfa tea - The Healing power of herbs – Ceres Esplan
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa), Lucerne, Purple Medick. Usually called Lucerne in Britain, this plant is grown all over the world as a cultivated cattle forage crop.
It is a plant of enormous vitality, needing only one sowing to produce many crops of green growth.
It can be found as a relic of cultivation, or as an escaper and can also be planted in gardens. The seeds can be grown all through the year for salads and can be eaten whole as they first start sprouting. These do well indoors in jars where they can be kept moist or in soil pots.
Alfalfa makes an excellent tonic herb which also acts as a stimulant and a general ‘pick me-up’. It is useful who ‘have become too lean’ and a cupful of Alfalfa ‘tea’, taken three times daily, is easy to make from chopped-up young green growth which has been infused by having boiling water poured on it
