A description of the experience

Joni Mitchell - Blue (1971) [full album]

This Album was So important in my life.  The lyrics are sheer poetry and the depth, intimacy and self revealing of the Album are just so incredible.  At the time I was a newly emerging gay man, trying to be a hippy (in the not very hippy like weather of England) but I was gamely trying all the new experiences I could.  Weed did little for me (munchies and nausea) but I dropped acid and for the first time I heard "I wish I had A river I could Skate Away on" and I was swept up in it and saw things , that were truly psychedelic.  After that I listened to the rest of the Album and truly found it a revelation.   Over the years I have given it as a gift to several people and all have found it immediately occupies a special place in their life.   By far my favorite Joni Album, discovered at the same time as I was discovering the luminous writing in The Journals of Anais Nin.
