A Delightful Sense Of Freedom
My first out of the body experience happened when I was about 4 years old. I had many after that and had no idea what they were. I just knew that my hands would go through the wall (and so did I) and that I could not turn lights on, or move objects in the usual way. These experiences would always begin with a buzzing sound, a sense of electrical energy and images of black and white lines from a dream state.
Years later I found a book by Ann Faraday on dreams (Dream Power or The Dream Game). It described the phenomena I had experienced. I set an intent to deliberately leave my body next time this happened.
Early one morning, a week, or two later the opportunity presented itself. I managed to leave my body and study it from the outside. I looked at myself and noticed that I saw myself differently. I thought "I wonder if everyone sees me this way?" Now that I could look at myself objectively, I decided to make sure I wasn't actually awake in the physical sense, so I walked through the wall. I could see the internal molecular structure of it as I passed through it. The cat in the living room was amazed at my sudden appearance and it hissed at me.
Now that I was free of my body, I decided to conduct another science experiment. I was in New York at the time, and I made up my mind that I was going to go and visit my friend in Johannesburg. He could see spirits and auras, so I figured that if he could see me then the experience was not only real, but I'd have a witness. I focussed my thoughts on him. Without any sense of movement, I found myself standing in the sporting good store where he worked. He was on a step ladder, getting shoes down for a customer. I floated upwards and tapped him on the shoulder. He looked directly at me.
I returned to my body, which felt unpleasantly heavy after the sense of lightness and freedom of traveling without it.
A week, or so later, a letter arrived from my friend. It said "Thanks for visiting me". I had my proof.
This was the beginning of many out of the body adventures. I love the body free state. These days I use it mainly if someone is sick and I want to bring some kind of healing energy to them. A few people have seen me, in some cases I appeared simply as a gold ball of Light. In one case the energy actually set off the burglar alarm. The person said she wasn't afraid that it was a real intruder, she knew it was me.
I have no doubt that these experiences are real. What amazes me about them is the strange, detached, almost scientific analytical thinking that accompanies them.
