Reducing opportunities - avoiding temptation
It is not enough to provide a replacement, we now have to ensure that we do not put ourselves in the position where the original obsessions present themselves again. Eventually the replacements may take over, but until they do we are vulnerable.
There are two ways to do this, the first is to write down all the possible circumstances in which we will be presented with that ‘temptation’ again. In effect, against the list of pleasures, write down all the possible sources of that pleasure. For example
Chocolate |
Sweet shops |
Supermarkets |
Railways stations |
Internet shops |
Newspapers |
Magazines |
And here is where the reduction in opportunities comes – we try to avoid all these sources - sweet shops, supermarkets, and so on. Minimise the temptations.
