Being in space
This section attempts to cover space and space suits, not an avenue that any of us are likely to be able to explore unless we are truly wealthy, but it is worth looking at, because it has been so effective.
There might be ways of emulating at least part of what is provided by being in space and walking or moving in zero gravity with no tastes, sounds or smells as stimulation and with sight partially obscured. [sensory deprivation]
Space has little in the way of visual stimulation and some of the astronauts who have reported such experiences have also been given the task of simply staring out of the window and reporting back what they do or do not see!
From Space Odyssey – David Bowie
This is major Tom to ground control,
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
Here am I floatin' 'round my tin can far above the world
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles, I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much, she knows
Ground control to major Tom, your circuit’s dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, major Tom?
Can you hear me, major Tom?
Can you hear me, major Tom?
Can you...
Here am I sitting in my tin can far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do.
